Objectively, this was a pretty good book. But I didn’t enjoy it much. Two reasons:
One, I feel very sad reading modern day stories with unfaithfulness. Why specifically modern day? I guess I’m at the age where this stuff could happen to people in my social circle. Or rather I have already heard stories of marital discord and it is quite depressing. So perhaps I want more fantasy from that aspect of fiction 😅
Two, the story was very neat. Too neat. The conclusion (in both eras) was too obvious so it wasn’t very impactful. But it’s not all bad, I did really want Elizabeth to have a happy ending. At least 1 out of 3 of the women ended up in a fulfilling relationship 😊
One thing that did stand out to me in this book was the way the author fairly subtly made conmentary about the inequal treatment of women in society across eras. I appreciated that.
