Weekly Shonen Jump: The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins Chapters 1-48 Review

My expectations were probably set too high after Takopi’s Original Sin….

The Ichinose Family’s Deadly Sins

(Taizan 5)

November 2022 to November 2023

48 Chapters

What I Liked

  • The wide range of medical and psychological/social issues it tried to touch on.

Where I Think Things Went Wrong

  • It was very meandering…maybe the weekly chapter format didn’t do it any favours? It was less of a rollercoaster of emotions/plot developments and more like being jerked side to side by a drunk driver.
  • None of the characters are very likeable.
  • Uncertain messaging.

Conclusion

At some point I kinda just checked out and so don’t feel much in particular about this one ending. I’m thinking Manga Plus might be a more suitable platform for Taizan 5. I appreciate the themes they try to tackle and I’m not sure they are given enough free reign to explore them to the depth they deserve given the intended audience of WSJ. So I blame the editors more for this series than Taizan 5 themselves. Still looking forward to their next work though!
