This book was bland. About halfway through I had to check how far there was to go because I was ready to put the book down but at the same time nothing had really happened.
Auraya is an odd character. She felt bland enough to be a reader stand-in but had opinions enough to not quite qualify. Her romance didn’t feel very convincing. It was actually rather annoying how the supposedly wise priestess behaved while they were together.
Mirar living inside Leiard’s head was weird. I’m sure they’ll eventually explain why his entire personality remained, not just memories, but I would have liked a few more hints as to why it was happening.
Emerahl was full of contradictions. I was interested in her cohort of Wilds but they are obviously being saved for later volumes.
Overall there was too much focus on relationships (both emotional and/or physical) for my tastes. And the war ended up being a single day??? All thanks to what I imagine as a kamehameha from Auraya LOL.
The world had the potential to be interesting. So many fantasy stories end up being all YOUR GODS ARE A LIEEEE but these ones seem real enough, or at least have enough god-like powers to pass as gods. The insinuation that some old gods aren’t actually dead or new ones could come into being is interesting. But I don’t want to read anymore of this series so off to Wiki I go.
Finally, the mind reading stuff didn’t sit right with me. It’s essentially a Big Brother state. It gave rise to some really awkward manoeuvres by the characters. It’s just too overpowered it’s kinda not fun.
