Made this for my niece’s birthday. It was inspired by her Christmas present from an aunt on the other side of the family (I swear I wasn’t trying to one-up…). It was a mermaid dress that you could put the feet into the tail (sounds neat but is entirely impractical as it forces the wearer to waddle…how very elegantly mermaid-y) and was strapless (which would probably look nice in photos where they are forced to sit still but in reality it just kept slipping down until my SIL forced them to wear their Christmas PJ tops over it, which is also extremely elegant and mermaid-y…).
I used a pattern by Tadah Sewing. I bought some Shattered Glass Holographic Nylon Lycra in aqua. For me (totally not a mermaid aficionado), mermaids should be sea coloured but I didn’t think she would like green so much. I was a bit worried about sewing it since I suck with stretch fabrics, but it was surprisingly ok!
Since I had leftovers I made a halter top using this pattern.
And the t-shirt was also cos I had one lying around unused.
I had to speed sew this (this is the problem with birthdays so close to Christmas!) but it was worth the effort cos when she unwrapped it she was so happy she was speechless and she ran over to me and gave me the biggest hug 😊
