Main Fabric: Date Night (by Basic Grey) scraps
Filler Fabric: Emma Louise Vanilla
Backing Fabric: Big W quilt cover
Free-motion Quilting: Whisper (Urban Elementz)
I had quite a few scraps from my Date Night Chandelier quilt cover and wanted to try sorting by them colour. I’d also been eying off the Arctic Feathers pattern by Elizabeth Hartmann (amongst others) and this seemed like a good opportunity to buy and sew these feather blocks 😊
The colour distribution worked out favourably and allowed me to arrange the feathers light to dark vertically. The number of feathers however didn’t match the recommended for a lap blanket and so I devised my own layout. I was a bit worried about copious white space but I think it turned out nicely if I do say so myself.
The feather stalks (is that what you call em?) used some scrap brown confetti cottons from the Captain Hedgehog quilt I made and the binding was leftover backing fabric. Speaking of the backing fabric, I originally wanted to use a minky style blanket but my husband accidentally bought a quilt cover set instead because he was in a rush. It kinda worked out though since I changed from a lap size to double bed size and using a minky backing for such a large quilt sounds annoying 😅 Plus we were gifting this to his sister as a house warming present so were able to gift it as a set with the pillow cases too. I even rolled it all up and put it back in the original Big W cardboard wrapping for the lolz 😁
I still have a few more scraps from this so guess I can get one more project out of this fat eighth pack!!!
