Planning and Design
So I have loved the Zekko Hoodie since Splatoon 1 and made a bootleg of it many years ago (with my hobby heat press…the vinyl didn’t adhere very well so it was very bootleg…) but after making it I realised…it’s a bit too much maroon than I’m comfortable wearing IRL lol.
So that hoodie got donated and Splatoon 2 came and went and I still had leftover fabric in my stash. And during that time, my thinking kinda changed from wanting to make things as close to the in-game version as possible to well actually I should make things I will wear because they are comfortable and to my preference. I’d been looking for an excuse to make a short-sleeve hoodie with a pattern I already owned and the amount of fabric I had leftover fit this use-case perfectly 😁
Used in my Flingza gear set for Splatoon 3.
Materials
- Pattern
- Modified Kwik Sew 3491
- Fabric
- Leftover maroon fleecy/ribbing (Quick Response Fabrics)
- HTV
- Black/White matte Thermoflex (I think…)
Construction
I made this so long ago and I’m guessing it went fine because I don’t recall any particular issues 😝 I’m impressed that my past self used the ribbing for the hoodie lining though LOL. Reduces weight and uses up some of maroon ribbing I had.
Reflections
Apparently this is a doable amount of maroon 🙃 Also I made this way before they introduced the ¾ sleeve variation on the hoodie, which I think is cute, but I know I can’t do ¾ anything IRL, so happy with this one as is. But since it’s brushed fleecy, it’s hard to find the right weather conditions to wear this…
Things I learnt:
- Colour for clothing is a hard thing to imagine, I won’t be too hard on myself if I make similar ‘mistakes’ in future because you kinda can’t tell until you try it on.
- Terry fleece is a better option for hoodies and sweatshirts. This kind of fabric was a lot harder to find 5 years ago, but now there are heaps of options 😊
