I’ve felt almost nothing towards this series over the past 5 years 😐
Mission: Yozakura Family
(Hitsuji Gondaira)
August 2019 to January 2025
258 Chapters

I remember having a positive reaction to the first chapter because the main characters end up dating like right away. But since this is a battle manga not a romance one, it didn’t really mean much in the end, it was just scenario set up.
The family is fun and varied enough, but I feel like this was an ‘easy mode’ series where you weren’t really meant to wonder who would win or even how they would win, but more just be there to witness the spectacle of it all. So I didn’t find it very interesting.
My favourite part was when they were researching the Yozakura family history and meeting all the past heads. They were interesting, not just in terms of their abilities but also their motivations. And my favourite character was Futaba because she seemed the most sensible. Hmm, actually maybe Goliath, he was a fun pet 😝
To be honest, the ‘twist’ regarding their father didn’t really hit that hard, but not sure if cos I just didn’t care or because the series tended towards comedy so much that it didn’t really get an appropriate build up.
And I hated the time skip because I hated following the twins. They just made me feel like reading the Fowl Twins instead as they are way more entertaining.
Overall I never looked forward any chapters but I never felt the urge to drop it. I felt like it was one of the solid WSJ mid-tiers, where Mashle was the best and Undead Unluck was the worst so by default this was the middle mid-tier… And I just realised I’ve been remembering this series incorrectly as Mission Yozakura (forgetting the Family part haha).
