Planning and Design
I wasn’t planning on making this. But I grew fond of it after I started using it on my Custom Hydra outfit and I had also made the Roxy Shirt in white and thought not only would it go well with it, but I could also use it as work wear. For this reason, while it is cropped its not to the same proportion as in Splatoon, since I don’t want to be asked if the sweater shrank in the wash LOL.
I decided to use the Pearlescent Hoodie pattern but replace the hood with a ribbed collar and shorten the length by about 10cm. And I also used this project as an excuse to buy a waffle knit fabric 😁
Used in my Custom Hydra gear set for Splatoon 3.
Materials
- Pattern:
- Re-modified hoodie pattern
- Fabric:
- European Loose Weave Waffle Knit Black (Wattle Hill Fabrics)
- European Ribbing Black
Construction
So other than the modifications I mentioned above I didn’t change anything else and as I was sewing it I started to wonder if I should have tapered the sleeves more or widened the neck more… But funnily it actually ended up being good as is even though logically speaking it probably wasn’t desirable. The sleeves ended up working out despite the cuffs being quite wide cos I’m a weirdo who likes to not button up my cuffs lol. The high neckline worked well with the Roxy Shirt cos it buttons all the way up.
The ribbing was the easiest ribbing I’ve ever worked with and probably the best quality (although I think I prefer Remnant Warehouse’s bamboo ribbing for wearing).
Reflections
The fit is quite loose and boxy which makes it not look very stylish…which means I will probably wear it quite a lot LOL.
Things I learnt:
- This kinda knit creates A LOT of fluff that goes everywhere
- Stop relying on old modified patterns lol. It worked out this time but my tastes and experience levels have changed since then so better to start from scratch
