So I honestly wasn’t expecting Senjougahara to narrate this, I assumed it would be Araragi again, so I didn’t feel ripped off at all 🤣 In fact, I really like Kaiki as the narrator. Feels a bit similar to Ii from Zaregoto. Besides I can respect his respect for money LOL
I guess my expectations for this were low because my expectations were high for Onimonogatari because I like Shinobu, but didn’t really enjoy it much. Shinobu is not a very good narrator…
I wasn’t expecting to learn quite a bit about Nadeko. Or that Hanekawa would make an appearance. In conjunction with not having a clue how the story would pan out, this novel was full of surprises.
I liked the reveal about the contents of Nadeko’s closet. It was obvious it was going to play a crucial part but Nisioisin played the card very close to his chest so the reveal was actually surprising. But at the same time, it was so realistic the content itself wasn’t surprising at all haha. Well played.
I enjoyed Kaiki’s descriptions of Nadeko’s character. It made me pity her while not actually excusing her actions. And his lecture of Araragi was spot on.
The novel also had some good humorous scenes. The groucho glasses 😝 It probably is more fun imagining it than watching it via the anime.
So I have been reading these novels too far apart from each other but there is obviously something up with Ogi as well as Meme’s disappearance so I’m curious about the next novel. And I hope Kaiki isn’t dead…lol…
