Things I Like
- First chapter was good at upending expectations, while kinda setting expectations for the rest of the series haha
- Very interesting take on Cinderella? Which makes me wonder how the other fairytales will be represented
- Intrigue over witch who ‘imprisoned’ Rapunzel. Is she actually good or bad???
- Rapunzel and Mikel are both sweet
- Questions about the cause of the curses
- Questions about the geographic and political environments
- Is just that little bit dark/brutal without being downright depressing
- Art is nice 😊
Things That Could Be Improved
- Things are a bit slow while Mikel is in pieces lol. I guess the first chapter went fast but then the pace slowed right down…
Verdict
It’s Akasaka. Even if the first 10 chapters were lacklustre I probably would have given it another 10 before calling it quits. It can be quite fun when people reinterpret the classic fairytale stories. This one has raised lots of interesting questions, hopefully it will do a good job of the formula of giving an answer to one question while raising another.
