Feels like it didn’t know what it wanted to do

Things I Like
- Escalated things really fast
Things That Could Be Improved
- The situation with Hiroki’s dad and what will happen to Yuki is soooo damn obvious
- Turned into a morale predicament rather than time-stopping shenanigans
- Policeman doesn’t really have the tools to be able to be an adversary to Yuki and Hiroki
Verdict
So this went real hard early on with the cliff murder. But instead of turning into some sort of tipping point for either of them to double down on their actions (like Yuki actually letting the policeman die), it was just the two of them being wishy washy about the whole thing. When they finally did the right thing to turn themselves in, they very conveniently learn about the location of the God of Time leading to a very forced ‘race against time (and the police)’. And now a very cliche confession and ‘enjoying their remaining time together’ scenario 🙄
So I feel like this series is begging to be compared to Asura’s Wrath and Death Note. All three involve a character getting a very powerful ability. In Asura’s Wrath, the suspense comes from Asura very innocently thinking he’s doing what’s right, so you don’t want him getting found out. In Death Note the suspense comes from the mind games Light plays with the authorities. In both, the main characters are full of conviction that what they are doing isn’t wrong. None of this is the case for The God of Time.
So I think a better comparison is actually against Time Paradox Ghostwriter. Had a premise that could have been interesting but didn’t have the direction to capitalise on it 😔
