Planning and Design
I bought 3m of the Magpie Christmas fabric thinking it would be necessary since the fabric is only 112cm wide. I guess my husband preferring slim shirts means I could actually be quite economical with the placement of the pattern pieces. And the remnants was comfortably enough for a pair of pajama shorts. So these are the secret bonus Christmas present 🎅

Sustainability Check
👍 Fabric is 100% cotton and remnants from another project
🤏 Rasant is OEKO-TEX but not biodegradable
👎 Elastic is polyester. Still a ways to go on that roll…
Construction
This pattern is very simple. But not simple enough that I could figure out my cryptic notes on their own lol. So I had to grab one of the previous versions for reference. And I remembered why my pattern pieces were weird (separate split front/back waistband pieces) – I had adjusted this for only 1m of 112m wide fabric. So time to make another piece for when I have enough fabric for a continuous waistband. Or just mark 1cm from the centre front where the piece should go on the fold, that would be easier wouldn’t it haha.
Since I had the Piper Shorts construction fiasco in recent memory I successfully attached the correct sides to each other and everything else also went smoothly THANK GOD. I was sewing this at like 10-11pm at night so it would not have been surprising if I screwed up somewhere lol. I even remembered to put a little ribbon marker for the back because otherwise it’s too hard for my husband to figure out which way is which 😂 (I check for the backstitching over the opening left to insert the elastic but I guess he doesn’t have the eye for that).
Technically November 2025 Sewathon – Project #8 (or is that 7 since it was completed before the Trooper Shirt this was a remnant of lol.)
Reflections
I didn’t need to rush this since my husband was away in Japan, but I really wanted to finish it so I could hide it away haha. Paranoid I guess?
Things I learnt:
- Don’t assume I will remember anything next time LOL. Always write down any instructions or assumptions for next time.
