Total Books Read: 20
Hey only two less than 2024. That’s kinda surprising to me. I suppose I spent so long catching up on my newsfeed in 2024.
Favourite books
- The Bullet that Missed (Richard Osman)
- The Evening and The Morning (Ken Follett)
- Convenience Store Woman (Sayaka Murata)
Honourable Mentions
- The Man That Died Twice (Richard Osman) – set up for The Bullet that Missed, although it got gold in it’s own right as well
Series Completed
- Amelia Peabody Murder Mysteries
- The Rain Wild Chronicles
Other Highlights/Notes
- I pulled the plug on a bunch of mystery/romance series
- The Book of Dust Book 3 came out!
- I gave a straight romance book a try and decided it’s not my thing
I didn’t really stick to my reading plan and that’s because any book that I borrow from Libby needs to be read ASAP haha. But I was diligent about not letting my newsfeed get too out of hand. And doing better at continuing series and not leaving too much time between books. I feel my motivation for the Pern series dropping though since I’m onto the ‘side’ stories set in the 3rd Interval/Pass. At least they are short I guess.
I also completely ditched my Scribd/Everand subscription. Their new subscription model makes zero sense to me. At least not with my reading habits. I have a lot of discounted Google Play credit so have pretty much just been buying any books that go on a decent sale. So I have heaps to read next year. In particular I’m thinking of focusing on finishing the Book of the Ancestor series. Which reminds me, I need to add the last book of the Kate Kane, Paranormal Investigator series to my wishlist. I think these two series plus Temeraire were the only ongoing ones I really cared about. And I thought I had the first volume of Miss Fisher but turns out it was Miss Marple I bought instead haha. I’m stalling on my light novel reading because the Monogatari series is so erratic to me I often don’t feel like starting a new book in that series. I think I might try reading the Holmes of Kyoto light novels instead. I liked the manga but that died with Crunchyroll Manga Version 1. But I will read one Monogatari book as the first one for 2026 haha. So I’m still glacially making progress there.
Overall I think I’ve found a good balance between fiction and news articles 👍
