Whoops I totally forgot to do a write-up for this series when it ended.
Ekiden Bros
(Daiki Nono)
June 2025 to October 2025
17 Chapters

What I Liked
- The unique running styles of some of the athletes
Where I Think Things Went Wrong
- The pacing was weird. It rushed through high school straight to university and the main character had already leveled up in the time skip, so it felt like there was no sense of improvement
- Withholding the existence of the twin brother felt cheap. You can’t just pretend he never existed for drama’s sake. It’s not impactful if there were no hints about his existence to begin with
- I don’t see how the main character’s main personality trait (selflessness) really augmented his running stye
- Personally I feel like individual based sports manga don’t tend to do well. Although Ekiden is technically a team event, I don’t see how there is that much strategy or teamwork going on, it’s more each member is meant to individually do well so the entire team does well?
- It’s hard to make running exciting when it all just boils down to mental strength (once you take physical ability into account).
- They made the dad out to be some shit father/coach but in the lead up to the final chapters he didn’t come across like that at all so it felt like forced drama again.
Conclusion
I think the type of sport put this manga at a disadvantage and honestly at the end of the day the art wasn’t bishie enough to prop it up.
