Book Review: A Fiancée’s Guide to First Wives and Murder

This book got off to a bad start LOL. Irena was seriously irritating. So I don’t know why I was surprised when she ended up being the victim haha. I wonder if I was unconsciously mentally trying to prepare myself for a full novel of her…

Then I wasn’t very impressed with the sleuthing because in my memory, Francis was actually a more sensible and cautious main character? I felt like I liked the series because Francis would use her understanding of high society and her connections in order to get information. Not having to sneak around like Veronica Speedwell (who is much more physically suited to such work). But in the end it all worked out since Francis joined the dots using information she got via her newspaper connections and an older lady from high society.

I did like how her ex-husband’s mistress returned and how they have a friendship of sorts. And how Hetty now has a love interest. And I liked Francis’ scheme to work around society judging George on misinformation and how even her brother-in-law helped out.

I wonder when Francis’ father will make an appearance. I’m not looking forward to the next book for the same reason Francis isn’t looking forward to her mother hanging around for the wedding haha.

Anyway I said I would read a Monogatari light novel as my first book for 2026, but when Libby holds become available, they become priority haha.
