‘Hope to play more games in 2025’ LOL. I only finished one game in 2025…

- Gnosia – the kind of game I appreciate in hindsight but maybe didn’t really particularly enjoy during the play through.
- My Darling’s Embrace – I finished two routes (Kurisu and Moeka). It made me realise that I don’t like fan discs, even if it’s for Steins;Gate. So I’m going to drop this one, because at the moment it’s preventing me from starting any other games.
- Ring Fit Adventure – same old same old. I wasn’t very successful at incorporating my Core workout into my regular exercise routine…but in my defence I feel like I was quite diligent at doing Legs. I think I need to remove the Leg Scissors and Leg Raise exercises so that I feel less dread at doing the Core routine and reincorporate it one by one once I manage to actually schedule and stick to doing the Core routine.
- Splatoon 3 – I barely played this game (50 hours down from 375 in 2024). I think I’m done with it. I should write up my review…
- Mario Kart – only played for social reasons
- Mario Kart World – I like the idea of the open world and P switches but it makes me so nauseous playing it. And I hate what they have done with the tracks/maps. Please make them loops and not continuous. And make it so that it’s actually worthwhile tricking.
- Patapon – it was kinda fun but then it got grindy real quick and I hate doing those mini games so dropping this one too.
Honestly the most played game for me this year was probably Synth Riders. They added a bunch of really good DLC this year and I feel like the beat maps are getting more interesting and active. I love how coordinated I feel when I play a lot of the newer songs. I’ve now got enough songs for roughly four 40 minute long workouts. And because it doubles as exercise it’s really easy to slot this into my routine.
The biggest disappointment of 2025 was the Switch 2. Actually just a very expensive paper weight. I pretty much just play Ring Fit on it and I could have done that on the original Switch. And I would prefer to use my Switch Lite for most of my gaming.
I’ve realised that if I want to play more games, I need to dedicate a significant amount of time to starting it. Because it takes a little while to get gripped (whether that be story or gameplay wise) and so I never build the motivation to continue a game. Although I think it will still be hard to fit game playing into my regular routine because you can’t really stop/start most of them without losing momentum. For example, detective games I prefer to finish a chapter before putting it down or for RPGs I prefer to finish a dungeon before putting it down. So it makes it hard to commit to playing when I have no idea how long it will take me to get to that point where I feel like I can put it down. Also, my sewing and manga reading hobbies are taking up lots of time now haha. And when I take a day off it’s usually to read a book, not play a game. But I have quite a few trips planned in 2026 so I at least should be able to play a bit on the airplane.
I have quite a big backlog so I’ve decided for 2026 I’ll highlight some I’d like to make a concerted effort to play and then shortlist more that are of interest (but realistically I probably won’t get to).
- Jack Jeanne – is a visual novel (otome?) and music game in one
- Digimon Survive – its a visual novel and SRPG in one
- 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim – is a visual novel and is Vanillaware so will be suuuper pretty! And tower defense I guess, I’ve never played one before
- Sea of Stars – supposedly has gameplay like Golden Sun
- Anonymous;Code – I heard it’s the second best science adventure game after Steins;Gate
I went through my husband’s game collection and took notes on which ones I might enjoy…although most are remakes of old games 🤨Which somehow demotivates me to play them? 😅
- Bustafellows
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Fantasian Neo Dimension
- Ace Attorney Investigations Collection
- Ghost Trick
- Live A Live
- Suikoden I & II HD Remaster
- Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster
Last year my goal was to play games on Friday nights but it never ended up happening because I would prep for sewing on the weekend. But now that I’m trying to wake up early to match my husband’s riding schedule, I often have time to do some prep before work instead. This change in conjunction with sinking a chunk of time into properly starting a game means I might have better luck sticking to this plan haha.
