Oversized “Red Vector Tee”

Planning and Design

My favourite t-shirt since Splatoon 1 😊 Now made even better as an oversized tee! Even though I liked this shirt so much I only made the grey version in my original bootlegging days, but that meant I still had the design files to make this version.

I’ve never seen an oversized tee pattern from any of the big pattern companies or on Style Arc so off to Etsy it was.

Used in my Sloshing Machine outfit for Splatoon 3.

Materials

  • Pattern
  • Fabric
    • Combed Cotton Jersey Red (Homecraft Textiles)
  • HTV
    • Thermoflex Plus White (I think…it’s been in my stash a long time and I know it’s not Siser)

Construction

Very simple. Cut (HTV and fabric), press (HTV) and sew (fabric). Nice and easy project 😁

Reflections

At first I thought I wasn’t going to like wearing the shirt because the knit fabric wasn’t super soft or smooth, but it’s actually fine. The structure means it keeps it’s boxy shape well and its comfortable to wear as long as you don’t need to put another layer on top lol. I wonder if there is a way though to stop the hem from curling when it gets washed, I really don’t want to be ironing a t-shirt haha…

Things I learnt:

  • Look into ways to stabilise t-shirt/jersey fabric hems
