I promised my husband that when I made his flannelette overshirt wearable toile, I’d also tackle a bunch of mending projects for him. It’s part of a swap deal where he will 3D print me thread spool holders in return 😁
Re-threading Waist Tie
This barely counts as mending LOL. But I guess it’s not something non-sewists may understand how to do? I used a safety pin, but had to adjust the positioning since the hard end was longer than the safety pin head which made things awkward. Actually it was still pretty awkward, and made me think I probably should have used one of those bodkin things, but I managed. The trickiest bit was the seams, since these shorts are well worn and therefore the seam allowances have been compacted making it a bit harder to figure out where the gap actually was. I did this one first because I thought it would be the most annoying (even if it’s not hard, I hate doing this kinda thing LOL).
Reattaching/Reinforcing Seam
This is a bike bib where the chammy was starting to detach because the coverstiching was unravelling. I just used a normal zig zag stich to sew it back down. Luckily these are shorts versions so I could use the free arm to easily get to it. When I showed it to my husband he complimented me and said it looked exactly like the professional stitching which is a very nice thing to say, but he also asked me to trim some loose thread, and when I went to do that I realised he was looking at the other leg (so it was actually the coverstitching) and that the loose thread was the other side starting to unravel too LOL. So I had to go zig zag stitch over that side too.

Shorts Hem Mending
The most impressive part of this mending was how well the thread colour matched haha. Thank you Rasant colour chart. With these two shorts and the bike bib, I don’t have much confidence in coverstitching LOL. Some of my own clothes have the coverstitching unravelling too even though I don’t wear them that often… Are they just using cheap thread or something or is it to do with the actual construction of the stitch? Because I feel like a normal straight stitch hem would never unravel unless the thread was literally cut somehow.

I know mending isn’t that impressive or anything, but I still feel like it’s good for me to document when I do these things, because I have such low motivation to tackle them that it’s an achievement when I actually do it haha.
