This is a birthday present for my nan-in-law. She loves to gift flowers to people so I thought this would make it easier for her to transport the bouquets around. I don’t remember how I found out about this pattern. Until recently I didn’t realise flower totes were even a thing LOL.
I adjusted the pattern to have 5/8 inch seam allowance (instead of 1/2 inch) and made the version with fabric handles/ties since I did not read the instructions prior and didn’t realise the default version calls for webbing and ribbon/cord. Honestly, this was a bit of a last minute idea and so I used what I had available in my stash. I think the instructions might be a bit off for the fabric handles, I think the 2 inch width doesn’t take into account the required seam allowances. I ended up cutting double the fabric for the handles and sewing together to turn out. That was super annoying. So in future I would cut 3 inch and iron 1/2 inch (or 1cm, since close enough) on both long ends and topstitch it down like I’ve done for all other handles in the past.
I also forgot to block fuse the interfacing before cutting the main fabric so cut it without seam allowances and didn’t really succeed in centering it very well, eh not that it really matters. But it was annoying trying to get the fuse nice and flat with my iron. So definitely will also block fuse in future.
It’s pretty cute, but we’ll see if it actually does it’s job well haha.
