So I thought 2024 was lacklustre but damn, this past year I only had 4 songs favourited and had to go look at my 5☆ list to see if I could upgrade a song to make a top five LOL. In 2024 I had 64 5☆ and in 2025 I had 59 (technically 58 because Moi has two entries, the original Denonbu one and the self-cover by Hashimero). So a slight decline but probably not significant enough to call it a trend.
One thing this year did well though was have a lot of really catchy anime theme songs. I was surprised at how much I liked some of the songs given they aren’t really my usual genre/style.
- Fashion Star – An easy pick for #1. It’s packed full of musical aspects that I like. I especially like the bass line and bass solo and the various ayeeee’s from the vocalist 😝 And nice that the DJ gets a scratch solo too lol. I’ve played this song so many times and haven’t gotten sick of it at all
- Twilight – this came out really late in the year but shot up the lists because I loved it from the very beginning of the song. It’s been a while since I’ve really dug Yama’s stuff (I loved like her first 5 songs then was pretty eh on the rest since).
- Fake Show – This one was surprising because Omoinotake only showed up in my New Music Playlists from Apple because they did a song for the Apothecary Diaries. I was humming this song from memory before I even learnt what it was called haha.
- La velada legendaria – I dunno when I’ll finally memorise this song title but this was a song that I wouldn’t say I loved to actively listen to, but I would always notice when it finished and often wanted to replay it. Just a real fun Sheena Ringo song with a catchy beat.
- Kusushiki – This one is the song that got upgraded and the reason is because it’s a song I like to listen to, sing at karaoke and play on piano. I guess it’s my most listened to song as well.

I’m not including the anime theme song artists where I haven’t favourited any additional songs of theirs (HIRAIDAI, Aina the End, PiKi, Furui Riho, Kento Nakajima, Aooo).
- DeNeel – who are these people, I don’t even know 🤣 I guess Apple Music algorithm good for something
- Kaijinnijumenso – I’m guessing from their profile picture on Apple Music that they’re visual kei?
- mekakushe – a new favourite artist introduced via anime haha
- Omoinotake – maybe I should go listen to their back catalogue since I like Fake Show so much
- Hashimero – one to keep an eye on, so far I like most of their songs
- Midy – this one totally showed up in my recommended music because they are similar to the type of music my husband listens to haha
- Does Mrs Green Apple count? I went and listened to their back catalogue and can’t say I’m a huge fan. I just really like Kusushiki I guess.
2025 is also the year that Apple Music decided to completely bork all my smart playlists… 😣
