Weekly Shonen Jump: Black Clover Chapters  1-392 Review

I think I actually owned some volumes of this in the early days.

Black Clover

(Yūki Tabata)

January 2019 to April 2026

392 Chapters

It’s been so long and had so many breaks that I honestly couldn’t really remember the details of what was happening and who was who. But it kinda didn’t really matter? It was still fun to read lol.

The most memorable character was the older sister of the fire guy. Yeah I don’t rmb her name (Leo-something) but I think I only remember Asta, Yuno and Julius (I don’t even rmb the heroine’s name) so it kinda doesn’t factor into the memorableness imo. Whenever she showed up I was both like ‘I remember you!’ but also kinda happy there was a kick-ass female character who got lots of page time.

My favourite moment was when they revealed the bird in Asta’s hair was a cute girl. One because it was like ‘of course she’s a cute girl’ but two because I had forgotten that Asta had a bird in his hair. So it was double the surprise 😝

The most memorable moment was when the Black Bulls were under attack at their home base and it turns out the building is a giant robot for a shut-in member. I have no idea if this was hinted at at any stage but I found it very enetertaining 😂

So most of my enjoyment from the series came from being surprised by the happenings which probably wouldn’t have been surprising at all if I had paid attention properly, but then I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed the series at all. So I accept the situation.

Black Clover was a easy read that didn’t require much thought. It had lots of characters and flashy battles. I think it was a success for a shonen series. And perhaps the last of the loooong-running serialisations (excepting One Piece of course)? But I won’t be replacing those volumes I donated to the library 😋
