Book Review: Tsukimonogatari

Two main reasons why I didn’t really enjoy this book. First is because it’s obviously a set up novel so the events of this one weren’t really all that engaging.

Secondly I don’t enjoy Araragi’s interactions with middle schoolers or ‘tweens’. So the triple dose of sisters plus Yotsugu made it very yawn inducing for me. For some reason elementary and high schoolers is ok. Man I miss Mayoi.

Poor Tadatsuru. Guessing his name is meant to mean ‘Just a crane’? Felt as inconsequential as Kanbaru’s swamp girl friend.

Only thing that really kept me reading was the wonderful translation. Even if I didn’t give a damn about Araragi’s endless nonsensical monologues, at was fun to read the wordplay and wonder about the original text.

And I liked the interaction with Senjougahara, where she firmly requested he not go visit Hanekawa on Valentines Day. Fair enough girl, fair enough.

Anyway next two books are Koyomimonogatari…can’t say I’m excited for it but these books are so unpredictable it might actually be a fun read.
