Manga Plus: Excuse Me Dentist, It’s Touching Me! Chapters 1-68 Review

Wow, I remember when I first started reading this, I was trawling through Manga PLUS trying to find *something* that didn’t have locked away chapters and this was one of them. Honestly, not sure if I ever would have picked this up if I wasn’t so ‘starved’ for content. But really glad I did 😂 Cos I remember laughing do hard at the early chapters that my jaw hurt 😅

I really like this style of manga where every character is an idiot and they take turns being the tsukkomi. I also really like comedies that hinge on characters completely misunderstanding things, the one that stands out most in memory is when Ezaki goes to the dentist and is trying to hint that he realises Tomori’s boobs are fake 😋 The translation here was probably on the awkward side but to me that just made it even funnier.

It’s super cliche, but I found the whole 3-sons-walking-in-their-father’s-footsteps shtick hilarious. And I should have anticipated that the two yakuza madams were also connected in their youth. I think that was one of my favourite parts of the series, that they were able to clear up the misunderstanding between them and resume their friendship 😊

My favourite character is probably Akoya, although I’m embarrassed to say I had to look up her name since in my head she is ‘Tomori’s Fiancée’. She’s just so cute and probably the most level headed (and can say some pretty cutting things with a innocent shark-toothed smile on her face).

I would love to re-read this in the tankobons. I really wanna know what was going through the mangaka’s mind while writing this. Like, do they actually really like teeth/have an interest in dentistry? And I’d love to know the inspiration behind all the wacky characters. I don’t think this one will ever get a western release though 🙁
