Viz Manga: My Love Story!! Chapters 1-50 Review

I watched the anime for this and thought it was great. So was very eager to finish Takeo, Yamato and Suna’s story!

I understand now why this never got a second season. The manga didn’t go on for too much longer after the anime stopping point.

I gotta say, the author comments made me really appreciate the story set-up even more 😁 I didn’t realise it was a collaborative effort.

I really love how this story isn’t just about Takeo and Yamato, but is equally about Takeo and Suna’s friendship. The separate story arcs where they both admit the changes to their relationships made them feel a little lonely was adorable.

Speaking of adorable Maki is both adorable and hilarious. From her ‘una una!’ to her tumbling skills, I kinda wish there was a 10/15 years later epilogue to see what kinda girl she would become 🤣

The transfer student arc was probably the highlight of the manga. It neatly encompassed Takeo realising he missed Suna’s companionship, Takeo proving his ability to befriend all dudes as well as setting up for Yamato’s transfer.

Not to say that the other arcs were much lesser in any way. I loved how they managed to fit in scenarios where Takeo was liked by someone, Yamato was liked by someone and Suna was liked by someone (that he actually didn’t immediately shut-down), plus showing Ai gradually moving on from Takeo. It definitely encapsulated many young love bittersweet scenarios!

Because the series was pretty silly from the beginning, the way the climax was handled felt very humorous and smoothed over how rushed it all really was. It felt very shonen for every character to show up and support/set Takeo straight when he screwed up 😂

I’d rate this series up there with Otomen and am seriously considering buying it. It’s so wholesome, I would definitely read it again…guess I’ll add it to the list 😅 Luckily it’s Viz so the physical volumes should stay in print for a long time 🤞
