Manga UP: Even Monsters Like Fairytales Chapters 1-29 Review

A really cool spin on the reincarnated heroine and villainess tropes

There was a lot to like about this series. At first it seemed like a slice of life of Sylph getting used to her new life after being exiled, with the framing as a villainess like it was just set-up for her to end up in Daghelm. But then the twist about Kanna was revealed. The cool thing about the twist was that there was no ‘shadow overlords’ controlling the reincarnation and progression of the story, it was just Kanna’s misconception based on the stories she had read in her world. So everything being ‘real life’ with ‘real consequences’ hit pretty hard. I guess the one thing that wasn’t really explained was why everyone believed Kanna on such flimsy ‘evidence’, if there was no puppet-master making people more gullible.

I liked the extras that shed new light on the way other people saw Sylph and the king. And the ending was truly happy for the book lovers haha. Even Kanna got as happy an ending as she ‘deserved’.
