I wanted to like it…
Things I Like
- The main character’s ability is sewing related
- The two freighter’s they meet up with seem interesting
- Mage tools and the hypocrisy associated with the use/development of these
Things That Could Be Improved
- The use of mage abilities is kinda lame
- Doesn’t do a good job of balancing the sense of urgency with the actual journey required
Verdict
I think it’s telling that the series only became interesting once they introduced some of the side characters. The two main girls are nice enough but not interesting enough to carry the series. Although to be honest I knew I wasn’t going to continue with this series during their fight with the lock magic tool where they just continuously unlocked each lock with the needle on the thread magic…it was too lame.
It did have a good hook on the 10th chapter with the boy freighter getting kidnapped by the mage tool user, but ultimately I don’t care about his fate enough to continue reading.
