Nin Gojira Fitzroy Hoodie

Planning and Design

A re-do of a previous hoodie I made but never wore because I tried to make it hoodie dress style and then realised, I actually don’t like hoodie dresses 😅 Since I’m more into comfy, loose outerwear I decided to use a raglan sleeve pattern from Style Arc.

The HTV design is based on the error image on Nintendo’s website back when the Switch was announced, it was really popular for awhile haha. I myself have used it four times now, two shirts back before I had a heat press so had to use an iron, the previous hoodie and now this one. Aaannnd a future fifth time because I screwed up the HTV application this time 😅 Cos I decided to use puff HTV and messed up…

Materials

  • Fabric:
    • Red Cotton French Terry Knit (Homecraft Textiles)
    • Leftover red ribbing (Quick Response Fabrics)
  • HTV:
    • White Puff HTV (Picture Perfect Products)

Construction

I haven’t done pockets like this before, it’s good for reducing bulk although I don’t know if I like the stitching showing on the front that much. A lot of pressure to get the curves nice and smooth and symmetrical haha. The pattern itself was simple and straightforward.

I followed the instructions for the HTV without doing a test first which was my bad. I’ve since learned that puff HTV is very finnicky. So when this one falls off I’ll think of some other way to apply the design. Maybe flock instead. Plain HTV would be too boring 😋

Reflections

The fit of the hoodie is very comfy. The hood doesn’t sit that nicely when down, maybe because it is double layer so a little on the heavy side and pulls back. But not a big deal. Maybe next time I make this hoodie I’ll try using the decorative zig zag stitch.

Things I learnt:

  • Applying puff HTV is hard 😣
