Manga Plus: Blue Proustian Moment Chapters 1-25 Review

So it ended up not being yuri, but that’s fine with me.

This was a sweet story about friendship between two very different girls. I like how Kazuki grew as a person by hanging out with Moka who is definitely much less privileged than her. And seeing the way her dad’s hotel was affecting various people around town. I like how it acknowledged that things can’t stay the same forever, and at least her dad doesn’t seem like a money-grubber, he honestly seems to want the town to prosper.

I thought they dealt with Moka’s past pretty sensitively. And Hana is such a good brother. And kind even though he acts like he isn’t. I loved that both siblings overcame the potential generational trauma. And the dynamic within Kazuki’s family was pretty fun. It was cool how you could see how Kazuki inherited various attributes from the different parents haha. It seemed like Kazuki’s mum had an interesting past, which they only touched on briefly, but the story isn’t about her I guess so that’s fine.

I’m glad that nothing came of the boy and the handkerchief. I felt like it was going to be awkward teenage drama, but instead we got Kazuki breaking a guy’s nose with the dictionary in her school bag LOL.

I didn’t feel like Kazuki and Moka were co-dependent, but I suppose they were each other’s first real friend and maybe that made them too attached, even though it might not have come across like that.

I’m not fussed that this didn’t end up being yuri, but I guess the vibes were there and the whole Kazuki’s school being an all-girls Christian one probably was a red herring. In the end that didn’t really matter much either. Just another aspect of Kazuki’s sheltered upbringing.

I think my favourite part was the friendship bracelet exchange. Not just that they made and exchanged them, but that both went out of their comfort zone to learn about it from their classmates 😊
