Book Review: The Bullet That Missed

This was a delight. Such fun!

As usual, it’s the characters that make it, and not only do quite a few characters return but they added way more new (and probably also recurring) characters than would be normal.

For the recurring characters, I love Connie’s interactions with Ibrahim. And how she’s playing her own games while playing along with the Thursday Murder Club. I love that Joanna keeps getting involved (one of the few characters that knows things Elizabeth doesn’t) and nice to see she’s still with Scott. Jason gets a couple of small mentions (sounds like a handy son to have lol) and of course Kendrick pointing out the obvious as a child is wont to do sometimes 😁

And it’s nice that Chris and Donna are both in happy relationships now. And the Mike and Bethany work mate/mentor relationship was a lot like theirs, which made the case even more meaningful.

As for the new characters, I knew they were setting Pauline up as the red herring but I was still surprised and impressed at her part in it all. Very cool. Mike was sweet in his reflections on his relationship with Bethany and the way Pauline treasures him was so heart-warming.

Victor was pretty fun on his own but he was at his best interacting with Joyce and especially the Viking lol. I was surprised how things went with the Viking. I feel like he won’t be a recurring character though. They have Bogdan already haha. I think my favourite moment belonged to him though with him hesitantly telling Victor he needs to stop being on the lookout for assassins because the would-be assassin was him and he was right there 🤣

The story itself was a ride and at first seemed to wrap up very neatly but then on second thought it was actually very messy with lots of loose ends. Thanks to multiple people lying haha. But that’s how things work when everyone has their own agenda.

I am a little worried about the next book because I really don’t want Donna to get into a ‘me or Elizabeth’ funk with Bogdan. I’m hoping she is learning to trust him. And I like to believe that she cares just as much about the oldies as Bogdan does.

I’m super curious how things are gonna pan out with Connie. I’d like to think Ibrahim will win her over. At the very least, he seems to be adventurous again so that’s good!
