I always thought the ‘l’ was a capital ‘i’ and thought the series was called ‘eid-live’ LOL

Finally rereading this series. I remember I bought the Japanese tankobons because I thought it would never get localised because of the treatment Reborn got. But then it got published in early version of the Shonen Jump app. So I got rid of my tankobons beccause I assumed they would give it the physical treatment in English because it was in the app. But it only got digital 😂 So here I am finally having purchased the e-books.
Because I read it in the app on a sort of weekly basis (there were times I binge read a couple of chapters in a row), it wasn’t a particularly continuous read, and so I could only really remember bits and pieces. Mostly about Dr Love haha, he is definitely the most interesting character. And I totally remember certain things wrong, like I thought Toto was the traitor, but that wasn’t the case at all.
I also completely forgot about Glock being Madigan’s clone, Madigan getting killed by Chuuta and poor Gucchi getting off-ed pretty early on. Really, poor Gucchi, at least the other two childhood friends were in on the plan since the beginning, he totally got the short straw getting separated from his family, forced into becoming a notorious pirate and then getting killed by Heaven Siders outta nowhere 😅 But I guess that’s kinda what I like about Amano-sensei’s stories, I can’t really predict what’s going to happen because some things are super convenient (like Dr Love actually resurrecting everyone) but some things are randomly harsh. And some of the humour comes out of nowhere, like the stuff about Chief Lane and his dango obsession LOL. And a lot of the character’s rationales make no sense, like the main bad guy killing off Scarlett/recipient of his one-sided love, because somehow he thought losing her would be equivalent to Sonokata’s loss of the entire crew, who were essentially her family, through no fault of her own.
Glock and Dr Love were my favourite characters. Chuuta was mostly pretty annoying and Sonokata’s relationships were very unconvincing haha. I don’t buy her romance with Chuuta (although I did really laugh at adult Chuuta being rational and telling her to go ahead and become Mothers). And I never got the impression that Veronica and Sonokata were actually besties or anything. But good for them getting their happy ending I guess.
So this was a fun series, but I’d say lacking any particular substance. A bit like how I view Black Clover, it’s flashy and it’s fun seeing how things unfold but at the end of the day you know it’s going to be a happy ending. I guess that makes it a comfort read of sorts? I do think it’s the weakest out of the three Amano series I’ve read so far though.
