Manga UP: Talentless Nana Chapters 1-122 Review

Finishing this reminded me that Crunchyroll Manga was a thing lol.

I started reading this on Crunchyroll Manga. When that died, I wasn’t super fussed that I wasn’t able to finish it, but then it released on Manga UP. I think I procrastinated on picking it up again because I couldn’t remember where I got up to, and then after I started rereading it I caught up, so then I dropped it again and only picked it up (third times the charm…) after the series was confirmed complete. So as a result, I probably didn’t remember important plot points so couldn’t appreciate the story like it deserved 😅 I was quite confused about Rin/Jin and took me a bit to remember who was who and what happened to the real Jin and which one was the one that helped Nana on the island and honestly I’m still confused about how Rin ended up at the school before Kyoya when she’s the younger one…but whatever. I also forgot who Michiru was and what happened between her and Nana so that definitely lacked the proper impact. And sorry Nakajima, I still don’t remember what your power is…(except that it’s strong enough to kill Tsuruoka)

I do think the series was good at the mind games and suspense. And Nana was very good at thinking on the fly and turning things to her advantage. For some reason the main fight I remember was the one against the lightning guy in the abandoned warehouse.

The reveal about Tsuruoka felt kind of unnecessary? It did make sense that he did all those things out of selfishness, but the reveal about Nana’s brain tumour felt too neat. I guess it was one way to help her atone without dying.

In reflection, this series is probably another one that was better before the time skip. I remember it being a lot more engaging before the camp arc. But at the same time I didn’t enjoy it that much because it was kids killing each other 😅 So overall I guess this series wasn’t really for me.
