Manga Plus: Magical Girls and Narco Wars Chapters 1-31 Review

The title could do with some work haha

I thought this was a good take on the ‘dark side’ of magical girls. Candy was such a good concept. It’s totally believable that the magical girls would undergo mental breakdowns from essentially being abandoned by both humanity (even if it was unknowingly) and their ‘master’.

I’m guessing this one didn’t do that well in the rankings because it did feel a bit rushed. Not all the magical girls got an in depth focus, well really it felt like only the human sculpture girl got decent treatment. So it didn’t feel that impactful near the end when they all entered the fray.

I was surprised at Riri and Akira’s connection, although I guess I really shouldn’t have been 😅 I thought Riri’s background was particularly interesting, and I thought her comment about how they both had horrible families was pretty spot on, despite their circumstances being so different.

The super happy ending did feel a bit jarring. I guess I was expecting something more bittersweet? Less neat I guess. But I did enjoy reading this one, even if it wasn’t one of my favourites.
